Standard Schnauzer Puppies

Standard schnauzer puppies are going to grow into medium size dogs that will make good family pets if they are introduced when they are small.  They enjoy being involved in the family activities and they are very loyal.  This article is going to explore some more characteristics related to this dog so that you can determine if you are interested in owning one and raising one in your home.

Standard schnauzer puppies are some of the smartest and strong willed dogs on earth.  This makes them very easy to train when they are puppies.  However, because they are strong willed you are going to need to work hard with them and start this process at a young age.  It is very important to help your dog understand that you are in charge while helping them feel like a member of the family.  You are going to want your training to be very upbeat and make it rewarding for your dog. This is the most effective way to help them learn appropriate and positive behavior.

These types of dogs also really enjoy a lot of exercise.  They need to have a long walk every day at the very least.  If at all possible, you should take your dog to a location in which he or she will be able to run and play for an extended amount of time.  This is going to help the dog remain healthy and get out their energy.  You do not want them to become frustrated indoors and begin to misbehave.  Therefore, find the time to exercise your dog.  Standard schnauzer puppies may also do well if you place them in classes that give them an opportunity to practice herding and tracking.  These are the types of activities that they really enjoy.

You may have noticed that standard schnauzer puppies have long hair that is actually wiry.  It may look easy to take care of but that is not really the case.  You are going to need to keep your dog brushed and you are going to need to do this on a regular basis.  This is very important because you do not your dogs hair to become tangled and matted.  This is going to become a problem that is going to take a lot of work to correct or you are going to need to call a professional groomer.

Your dog will most likely live to be approximately 15.  But, you should know that they often have hip problems and they often have eye problems like cataracts.  These are complications that are going to need medical attention at times and they are going to require a lot of time and supervision on your end.  If you are not able to care for your dog and give it the time and attention it needs (if it has health problems), then this may not be the dog for you.

Standard schnauzer puppies can be a wonderful addition to your home if you are able to give them the love and attention that they desire.  You need to be able to commit to walking and playing with your dog on a regular basis. You are also going to need to spend time brushing them and tending to their grooming needs.  Obedience training is well advised as soon as you get the puppies.  This is going to make life a lot easier for you and your dog when they understand what you expect of them.  As long as you feel confident that you can provide for this dog the way that they need to be cared for, you will be pleased with your new family friend.
